Cruising for continued team building in Kerala

CRUISING FOR TEAM BUILDING
The Kerala Network of CRC Change Agents is on a cruise on the ship Cordelia for team building. The cruise is from Cochin to the Lakshadweep archipelago and then to Mumbai. We have been a cohesive team for the last two decades... We believe that activities like this will strengthen our group further.
Tarek in the Ethiopian team in batch 20 is writing this now:

Dear Change Agents,

I am truly honored to announce that I have been accepted as a Global Fellow at the prestigious Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Studies at Brown University's Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs.

As a Change Agent in the Global network for the Convention on the Rights of Children (CRC), this would be a means to create various platforms and networks to advocate about the CRC. Moreover, it helps to share, learn, collaborate (Give and Gain), and ensure visibility as to how the training by the Child Rights Institute at Lund University impacted my career.

Thank you all ... for your excellent encouragement... on this.

Best regards,

Tarekegn, Ethiopia team

NEW BOOK ON CHILDREN`S RIGHTS IN EDUCATION

CHILDREN´S RIGHTS IN EDUCATION

The aim of this report book in Sociology of Law, (Research Report in Sociology of Law 2021:1) and Child Rights Institute, Lund University, is to gather, sum up and report, in a summarizing overview in an introduction followed by three concluding articles, our main experiences as researchers and teachers after 2016.

Two of the articles, “Mentor´s reflections” and “Looking back and looking forward”, have been published in Bodil Rasmusson, Lena Andersson, Agneta W Flinck, Ulf Leo and Per Wickenberg (eds.) Realising Child Rights in Education (2016), Lund University.

That year, 2016, the English version of the Sida-funded international training program, Child Rights, Classroom and School Management, was finished. However, there was a lot of continued work to come with Children´s Rights at Lund University after that.

This report could be viewed as an interesting example of how to achieve spinoff effects through strategies for sustainability and dissemination of knowledge and experiences from international cooperation on implementation of children’s rights.

Lund, February-March 2021

Per Wickenberg, Bodil Rasmusson & Ulf Leo

CRC Change Agents won a case on Child Rights in High Court in Kerala

CRC Change Agents won a case on Child Rights in High Court in Kerala

The Association for Promotion and Protection of Child Rights in India, APPROCH, is an organisation formed by the CRC Change Agents of Kerala, India, who attended the International Training Programme on Child Rights conducted under Sida, at Lund University, Sweden.
The organization filed a case in 2015 before the High Court of Kerala to prevent teachers of Aided Schools from contesting elections.
APPROCH´s point was that it was against Child Rights because teachers would be absent from schools for long periods during the elections and after the elections if they are elected to power.
The High Court has now, 24 February 2021, issued a favourable judgement in favour of APPROCH´s claim.
Aided Schools are schools run by private individuals or agencies. They appoint teachers of their choice but the salaries of the teachers are paid by the Government on a par with Government school teachers.
The judgement, which will benefit millions of children in Kerala, is a shining success story emanating from the Sida-ITP on Child Rights.
The 193 page judgement was issued by a Division Bench presided over by the Chief Justice.
